Scramble gets thumbs up

Our new Ambrose scramble tournament got off to a successful start on Saturday (March 26).

Blessed with ideal weather and a Waahi Taakaro course in tip top condition, the stage was set for a good day.

While the three-person ambrose format made for some slow play at times, the field of 26 teams of almost 80 golfers and non-golfers were kept well-watered and fed during their round and afterwards at prize-giving.

And judging from the good natured banter in the clubhouse, the format provided a good mix of fun and competition.

The Woollies team took top honours on countback from the Port Nelson Vincent team after both came in with net 62.

They were closely followed by Caddy Cadigan (63), Rambo Ramsey (64), and the Pom Squad and The Campers on 65 each.

A big thank you goes to all those who took part. Hats off to the organising team of Warwick King, Andy Isle, Steve Russell and Lewis Wilson and their team of helpers. Also to the following sponsors for their support: Nelson Aero Club, Sprig & Fern, Turf Hotel, Harry’s Fish Shop, Sturrock & Greenwood, Simplicity Funerals, Cap-it-all Promotions, Total Golf and Black Hill Honey.

We look forward to doing it again in 2023.
