Waahi Taakaro Golf Course in Nelson

Our course is on parks and reserve land owned by the Nelson City Council, which is also responsible for maintaining it to a good standard.

It is stunning in spring and particularly in autumn when the many trees are a blaze of golds and reds.

It is 10-hole layout with two sets of tees on every hole which provide different distances, angles and views second time around. No 1 and No 18 holes both cross the river, while No 4, 5 and 6 climb, cross and descend what is colloquially known as Coronary Hill which provides lovely views over the valley. There is either water or out of bounds or penalty areas on every hole so it doesn’t pay to stray. The greens are small and require accurate approach shots to hit.

Unlike other golf course in the region, we are sheltered from most wind and remain green over summer.

The course is 5226m off the yellow tees, 5552m off the white tees and a challenging 5936m off the blue tees. The slope rating for the course – a measure of its difficulty - is 113 off the white tees, 118 off the blue tees and 119 off the yellow tees. This compares to a NZ average of 113.

It is both a good walk and a test of golf in a beautiful and peaceful setting.
