Caught short at Country Clubs

Our two teams at the Country Clubs tournament at Totaradale over the weekend (Oct 30/31) tried hard but finished down the table.

The two-day, 54-hole matchplay tournament was won by the home club's unbeaten No 1 team, with its No 3 team claiming second on countback from Motueka's No 1 team.

Our No 1 team of Andy Isle, Lewis Wilson, Steve Russell and Neil McLaren struggled on the Saturday losing three of four matches, with Steve and Neil halving their first match for the only team point. Both pairs redeemed themselves on Sunday by winning their third and final matches for a team score of five points.

The No 2 team of Peter Green, Jonathan Tuheke, Richard Pearson and Warwick King had amassed five points by the end of Saturday's two matches, with Peter and Jonathan halving their first and winning their second. Richard and Warwick won their first before dropping their second. Peter and Jonathan completed an unbeaten weekend by winning their third match on Sunday, but Richard and Warwick lost a close one for the team to end on seven points for a respectable mid table finish.

Many of the visitors struggled to read the greens, but as expected Totaradale players had few problems with their No 1 team of Mark Topia, Murray Newport, Allan James and Nick McIntyre winning all their matches to take the trophy.
