There is a two-way tie at the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the Penketh Plate on Saturday as our summer programme finally got underway.
The club's top golfer Pete Green and relative newcomer Garth Jameson both shot noteworthy net 72s in the all irons round of the four-round competition off the white tees on a course softened by rain. Peter - who came home in 34 - won the match of the day on countback.
Brendan Doyle claimed third with 74. He was followed by Andy Isle (77) and Peter Watson (78). The trio of Aaron Kotua, Barry Rhodes and Steve Turnell were next with 79 each, with the field reduced by the threat of more rain and difficult access across the river.
Pete and Brendan shared the twos money.
Next week (Dec 17) is the first round of the Burns Philp Cup, a four-round stableford competition. It will be followed by our annual prizegiving so please make an effort to be there.
