Playing off the blue tees is a challenge at any time and even tougher on a course softened by rain but Keri Kotua showed how it's done in easily winning the third round of the Penketh Plate on Saturday (Jan 11).

His neat net 70 playing off an eight handicap was a fine effort in the most un-summerlike conditions.

Craig Barron claimed second with a solid net 74 and Garth Jameson returned to better form by taking third on countback from Matt Tomczyk  and Andy Isle after all finished with 75.

Graham Galt, Dean Goodman and Peter Green were next with 76 each.

No-one managed a two.

Keri's 78 off the stick was the only gross score under 80.

So after three of the four rounds, Andy leads with a total of 219 from Garth (225) and Andrew Craig (229), although Peter, Matt and James Campion are still in with a good chance if they play the final round next month. The best three rounds - which must include the all irons round - count towards the trophy.

Paul Tunnicliff headed a good field of 9-holers with a net 34 for the back nine off the white tees. Paul McCrae finished second on countback from Warren Green after both recorded 35. Richard Pearson was next on 36.

John Dixon had a shocker but at least walked away with a good collect after scoring the only two of the day at No 2 hole.

Next Saturday (Jan 18) we play the first round of the Stubberfield Cup, which is a net plus putts round off the white tees, while the 9-holers play an ambrose off the back nine.
