The Stubberfield Cup rewards good putters and the two golfers who recorded just 25 for the fourth and final round on Saturday (March 11) walked away with the spoils.
Neil McLaren won the final round, while his fellow leftie Peter Watson took home the silverware after the best three of four rounds of net plus putts was tallied.
On a day of disappointing scoring despite perfect conditions, Neil came in with a net 75 to post a winning total of 100 once his putts were counted.
Jim McMullan (71 + 30) - who was the only one to shoot under his handicap off the white tees - was next with 101. Pete Green (74 + 29) - whose 77 was the best gross of the day - was third, while Peter Watson (80 + 25) limped in with 105 to finish fourth and do just enough to claim the cup. His three-round total of 296 saw him head off Barry Rhodes (299) and Andy Isle (301) who both didn't play the final round.
Four players - Brendan Doyle, Maurice Woodhouse, Mike Murphy and Chris Louth - shared the twos money.
Next Saturday (March 18) is the second and final round of the pairs competition, the Cap-it-all Trophy, which is an individual net round off the white tees. The scores of each pair plus their first round four ball best ball net will be totalled to find the winning team with the lowest total. With autumn here, we will be teeing off at 10am.
