Two of the more unfancied pairs will contest the final of the Brebde senior/junior after battling past their more favoured opponents on a fine and frosty Saturday (May 11).

At the top of the draw, Neil McLaren and Dave Blake were taken to the last hole before seeing off Jason Lee and Lewis Wilson. Neil and Dave got the better start, working their way to 2-up by the sixth hole due to some par golf from Neil but Jason - who shot 37 on the front nine  - dragged it back to all square at the midway mark. A net birdie at No 10 by Dave put them ahead again but net pars on No 12 and 13 from Lewis saw him and Lee take the lead for the first time only to surrender it on No 15. Dave struck a telling blow on No 16, birdieing the hole from 8 feet after Jason had done well to get up and down for a par and Dave matched Jason's par on No 17 to take a 1-up lead to the tricky 18th. It again proved a handful  for all four players, but Neil's net bogey six was just good enough to halve the hole for a narrow win.

In the other semi-final, Peter Watson and Maurice Woodhouse were pushed all the way before they prevailed 2-up over Dean Goodman and Michael Savage.

With Peter playing well and Maurice contributing at key times, they had built a 2-up lead after seven holes before two pieces of brilliance - a long putt from off the green by Michael on No 8 and a chip-in birdie by Dean at No 9. - had them all square at the turn. The Ws edged ahead after Peter parred the 10th but it was all tied up again when they conceded No 13 to a par from Dean. A key moment came when Dean narrowly missed a birdie putt at No 13, while Peter got up and down from the rough for a half before the Ws took advantage of some waywardness off the tee from their rivals to reclaim the lead on No 15 with a net par. A kick-in birdie from Peter at No 16 after a pinpoint wedge had them dormie, but Dean forced the match to the last with a par. After both Peter and Dean had tree trouble off the tee, it was left to Maurice and Michael to decide the outcome, with Maurice keeping his cool to win the hole with a net par for victory.

In the match of the day, a par round off the white tees, for those not involved in the Brebde, Andy Isle shrugged an opening double bogey to post a winning +2 score on the back of a blistering final nine 36. Mark Clucas claimed second on countback from Peter Green and Jim McMullan after all shot +1. Next were Graham Galt (0) and the trio of Mick Leggett, Chris Louth and Andrew Craig on -1.

Peter G recorded the best gross with a 75, with Andy Isle and Peter W (78 each) and Jason Lee (79) all breaking 80.

Paul Tunncliff and Peter W shared the twos money.

Paul McCrae again topped the nine-holers with a +1 score over the back nine, while Gareth Edwards pipped Heather Carey for second after both came in with 0.

Next Saturday (May 18) we play the first round of the individual matchplay which is off the blue tees. Please get your names into the draw early.

The nine-holers will play a net round off the front nine.
