Andrew Craig's golf blows a bit hot and cold, but on Saturday he was on fire for the second round of the Stubberfield Cup.

Playing off a 25 handicap from the blue tees, he was out in 44 and back in 45 - which included a birdie two at No 14 - for an excellent 89. His eye-catching net 64 together with 29 putts for a total of 93 in the net plus putts competition saw him win the round on countback and garner maximum Summer Fedex points from Aaron Kotua who carded a fine net 68 off a 14 handicap which included just 25 putts. Aaron lit it up on the back nine with birdies at No 12, 15 and 16 and would have won but for an eight at No 18.

Three players finished on a total of 95 after posting identical net 68s and 27 putts, but Peter Watson claimed third on countback from Maurice Woodhouse and Andy Isle after playing the last 12 holes in even par.

Gareth Edwards produced a typically tidy net 70 and 28 putts for 98 to take sixth, while Steve Russell (74+26) showed some of his old form to come home in seventh and claim the last Fedex point on a day of decent scoring in calm, overcast conditions.

Seven golfers - Gareth, Andrew, Peter, Pete Green, James Campion, Kei Kotua and Geoff Halkett - shared the twos money which one each.

James, Andy, Pete and Peter all shot 77 off the stick to share the best gross honours.

After two of the four rounds of the Stubberfield (with the best three counting), Gareth leads narrowly with a total of 194 from Peter (195) and Pete, Andy and Andrew on 196. Next are James (199) and Keri and Steve on 202.

In the 9-hole competition, Daniel Allen won a three-way tie on countback from Ali Mawby and Mike Kirkwood after all posted net 33 off the back nine. They were followed Paul Tunnicliff, Paul McCrae, Tomas Amadeo and Andrew Dean with 35 each.

Next week (Feb 8) we play the first round of the Cap-it-all Trophy, which is a net competition played with chosen partners. The first round is an individual net round off the white tees which followed by a four ball best ball on Feb 22. The 9-holers will play a par round off the front nine.
