Jarrod Huss and Andrew Craig will contest the final of the Individual Matchplay after contrasting wins on a sunny Saturday (June 13), while Craig Barron and Lewis Wilson were crowned Brebde Senior Junior champs.

Whilst Andrew enjoyed a comfortable 5/3 win over Matt Tomczyk, Jarrod was pushed all the way before overcoming Maurice Woodhouse 1-up in typically heavy underfoot winter conditions. It was even tighter in the Brebde final with Craig and Lewis being taken to extra holes before winning at the 19th over Andy Isle and Phil Sellers.

Andrew - who began with a 12-shot advantage - made the best possible start to his semifinal, winning the opening four holes as Matt struggled to get going against his steadier opponent who was playing to his 24-handicap off the blue tees. Matt briefly stemmed the bleeding with bogies at No 5 and 6 for halves before Andrew went five up with a par at No 7. Matt clawed one back with a par at No 9 to trim the deficit to four.

However, Andrew again stretched his lead after they both double bogeyed No 10. Matt gave himself a glimmer of hope by winning No 12 and 13 with bogies before Andrew delivered the killer blows, firstly by a par three at No 14 to go dormie and then with a matching bogey with a shot at the next to finish Matt off.

The other semifinal initially followed a similar pattern, with Maurice - who got 11 shots from Jarrod - streaking to a three up lead after four on the back of a par and two bogies.. However, Jarrod was able get back in the match reasonably early  by winning No 5 and 6 with pars. Mo doubled his lead to two up with a bogey at No 8 where he got a shot only to see his lead cut to one when Jarrod parred No 9.

The big hitting 11-handicapper maintained the momentum by taking the next three holes with a bogey and two pars as Mo stumbled on the two par fives. But the veteran refused to lie down, winning the uphill No 13 with a bogey and the short No 14 with a par to get it back to even. Again, Jarrod surged ahead by parring both the downhill No 15 and 16 with pars and once again Mo responded with a winning par with a shot at No 17 to take a quality match - where both golfers played either under or to their handicaps - to the last. With Mo needing to win the tricky No 18th to take it to extra holes, Jarrod made sure he didn't with an impressive par to cap off a fine net round of 70.

In the match of the day - a net round off the blue tees - for all other 18-holers, Graham Eggers finish top of the pile with a solid 74 after shooting 91 off the stick. Second was newcomer Sivina Jacobs Harawira who carded a 76. She was followed by James Campion and Phil Sellers on 77, and Andy Isle, Dave Huntley, Roma Elkington and Keri Kotua on 78.

Keri Kotua and Gareth Edwards shared the twos with one each at No 5 and No 14 respectively, while Keri was closest to the pin on No 5/14.

There was again a good turnout of 9-holers, with Lloyd Moyle again coming out on top with a +2 score in the par competition off the front nine. Mark Sherlaw took second on countback from Jessica Whiunui who finished third ahead of Alan Clarence after all three posted +1. They were followed by Ali Mawby (0) who earned the final competition point.

Next Saturday (June 20), we play the final of the Individual Matchplay between Andrew Craig and Jarrod Huss. All the other 18-holers play a stableford round off the white tees, while the 9-holers play a net round off the back nine.
