A five-man countback and a putt-off was required to find the winner and minor placings in the Six-Hole Challenge on Saturday.
After three six-hole games of matchplay against drawn partners on a thankfully sunny day, an unprecedented five players - Chris Louth, Aaron Kotua, Lewis Wilson, Jonathan Tuheke and Peter Watson - came in with perfect records, although both Jonathan and Peter had benefited from having a bye.
So the scorers had to count up how many holes each player had won to break the deadlock, and it was Chris who emerged a worthy winner with three wins and 11 holes won after going around in the second best net of the day, a 68 off the white tees.
However, a putt-off was needed to determine second, third and fourth after Aaron, Jonathan and Peter all won 10 holes each. After being lucky to be in the mix, Peter drained a 35 footer first up to put the acid on his rivals. Aaron's effort was long, while Jonathan's putt just slid by. So Peter finished second, Jonathan - whose 68 was the best net of the day - claimed third and Aaron was fourth. Lewis - who won eight holes - ended up fifth.
Four players - Jonathan, Dean Goodman, Bradley Brown and Andy Isle - shared the twos money.
Next Saturday (August 20) we return to playing the Barkman Trophy and Shootout, with the match of the day being a stableford off the blue tees.
