Tom Halsall reveled in the baking conditions on Saturday (Dec 14) to post his best ever competitive score to win the second round of the Burns Philp Trophy.
Playing off a 22 handicap from the blue tees, the relative newcomer to Saturday golf carded an 86 for an imposing stableford total of 44 points to head a good field.
He netted 20 points on his outward nine before storming home with 24 on the back nine.
He wasn't the only one to have fun in the sun.
Garth Jameson rediscovered some form to claim second with 41 points, while Gareth Edwards pipped Jack Denton for third on countback after both recorded 40 points each.
Jason Lee and Ian Hanford were next on 38, just ahead of Steve Turnell and Keri Kotua on 37.
On 36 points were Lewis Wilson and Jonathan Tuheke who completed the top ten by playing to their handicaps.
Steve Russell and Keri shared the twos money with one each.
Surprisingly, no-one broke 80, with Pete Green and Keri matching it.
The top 9-holer was Sue Moyle who had one of her better rounds with 24 points for the front nine. Paul McCrae was next on 21 and John Dixon finished third with 18.
Next Saturday (Dec 21) we play the second round of the Penketh Plate which is an all irons net round off the white tees, while the 9-holers play a net round off the back nine.
