Aaron Kotua may have won the chocs but it was Andy Isle who claimed the cup after the fourth and final round of the Burns Philp Cup on Saturday.

Playing in stifling humidity off the white tees, Aaron shot a fine 79 off the stick for 40 stableford points to win the final round of the summer stableford competition. Out in 38 and back in 41, the 14-handicapper's round featured four birdies, all on par fours.

Chris Louth pipped Garth Jameson - who had his driver finally working well - for second after both recorded 38 points, while James Campion bogeyed the 18th for a 72 - which also contained four birdies - for 37 points and fourth on countback from Jim McMullan, Keri Kotua and a rejuvenated Steve Russell..

Making up the top 11 were Peter Green, Jonathan Tuheke, Jason Lee and Bryan Ramsey who all came in with 35 points.

Andy - with 32 points - had his worst round but it didn't count with the competition decided by a player's best three scores. He had played so well over the earlier rounds that his net total of 116 was easily good enough to secure the cup. Jonathan Tuheke finished second on 111.

Peter Watson scored the only two of the day, a delicate chip in on No 14.

Next Saturday (Jan 27) we play the second round of the Stubberfield Cup, a net plus putts round off the white tees. The 9-holers also play a net plus round.
