Lewis Wilson had a good reason to smile after making a fine start to the Six-Hole Challenge on Saturday (July 20).
His 23 points from his three six-hole matchplay games, where you get two points for winning a hole and a point for a half, saw him take the early lead after round one of three.
Matthew Watkins made a rare Saturday appearance count with 22 points, while Ian Hanford, James Campion and Dean Goodman each posted 21 points.
Next were Barry Rhodes, Bryan Ramsey and Maurice Woodhouse on 20 apiece. They were followed by Garth Jameson on 19. The group of Pete Green, Paul Tunnicliff, Roma Elkington, James Barton and Chris Louth all came in with 18 points.
The best net scores were shared by Matthew, James and Garth, while James shot the best gross of 73, with Pete (77) and Dean (79) also going under 80 in the muddy conditions.
The twos kitty was split between Pete, James, Dean, Keri Kotua and Mark Clucas who all got one.
Richard Pearson, who shot a 40 off the stick for the front nine, won the 9-hole par competition with a +2 from Paul McCrae (+1) and Lloyd Moyle and Andrew Dean who finished on 0.
Next week (July 27) we play the second round of the Six-hole Challenge, while the 9-holers play a stableford off the back nine.
