- Peter Watson
Two of our gun golfers have combined to win the Cap-it--all Trophy, our first major competition of the season.
On a glorious day for golf, James Campion and Peter Green recorded the third best team net of 63 for a two-round total of 204. James and Peter led after the first round individual nets with a total of 141 and did just enough to hold off the hard-charging pair of Graham Galt and Bryan Ramsey who shot a team net of 62 to finish second overall on 205.
Playing off 5 and 6 handicaps respectively from the blue tees, James and Peter went round in matching 77s off the stick to get the job done in solid fashion.
A distant third on countback were Andrew Craig and Matt Tomcyzk who posted a 67 to total 212 to push Aaron and Keri Kotua (69, 212) back into fourth.
Next were Dave Huntley and Peter Watson (69, 213), Duncan Isle and Garth Jameson - whose fine 61 was the best of the day - on 216, Jim McMullan and Richard Pearson (65, 217), Mark Clucas and Mick Leggett (67, 218) and Andy Isle and Lewis Wilson (68, 219).
Peter G and Graham shared the twos money with one each.
Among those not in the Cap-it-all Trophy, Barry Rhodes took the honours on countback from Jason Lee after both came home with net 71.
There was a three-way tie at the top among the 9-holers with all shooting net 33 for the front nine, but Mark Sherlaw won on countback from Andrew Dean and Barbara Kotua, with Andrew Green and Paul McCrae next on 34 each.
Next Saturday (March 1) we play the fourth and final round of the Penketh Plate, which is a net round off the white tees. The 9-holers play a four ball best ball with drawn partners off the front nine
