Garth Jameson and Mick Leggett top the leaderboard after the first round of the Six-Hole Challenge on Saturday (July 22).

On a perfect winter's day for golf, they both easily won all three of their mini six-hole matchplay duels to finish on 26 points apiece, with two points awarded for each hole won and a point for a half.

Garth, who was playing off a 19, and Mick, who was on a 28 handicap off the white tees, totalled a net 72 and 71 respectively in the benign conditions to comfortably see off their opponents.

Jason Lee, who finished third on the day with 24 points, was another to win all of his matches.

There was a three-way tie for fourth between Peter Watson, Rob Ancell and Jonathan Tuheke who came in with 21 points each.

Next were Keri Kotua, Dean Goodman and Lewis Wilson  on 20 points, with Chris Louth (19 points) completing the top ten.

Peter W, who narrowly won all three of his matches, recorded the best gross the day, a 76 which featured four birdies including a chip in at No 18. Pete Green (78) and Keri and Rob with 79 each were the others to go under 80.

The twos payout was shared between the two Peters, Dean, Rob and Mick.

Paul McCrae headed the 9-holers with a tidy net 33, with Lloyd Moyle (36) settling for second.

Next Saturday (July 29) we play the second round of the Six-Hole Challenge, while the 9-holers play a par round off the front nine.
