Taking on a professional golfer can be daunting or inspiring.

There was plenty of both when our club amateurs went up against against Sean Riordan and his dad Jeff in our inaugural Total Golf Beat the Pro four ball best ball on Saturday.

The day also doubled as the first round of the Cap-it-all Trophy, with the final round of individual nets scheduled for March 18.

As expected the Riordans set a high benchmark in recording a net 64 off the blue tees in ideal scoring conditions, with Sean - who was playing off a +1 handicap - grabbing five birdies and Jeff two playing off a 9 handicap.

However, they couldn't top Bryan Ramsey and Phil Sellers who combined superbly for a eye-catching net 62, while Pete Green and Kevin Hurst also shone with a 63.

Two other teams - Peter Watson/Barry Rhodes and Geoff Halkett/Mike Murphy - matched the Riordans with 64s.

Next were the combinations of Andy Isle/Lewis Wilson and Paul Tunnicliff/Brendan Doyle on 67 apiece, while Keri Kotua/Jonathan Tuheke (68), Graham Strickett/J McMullan (69) and M Leggett/W King (71) also broke par.

Pete Green and Richard Pearson shared the twos kitty.

Next Saturday (March 4) is the fourth and final round of the Burns Philp Cup, which is a stableford round off the blue tees.

Our thanks to Total Golf for providing the day's prizes and for their support.
