The semifinalists of the Brebde Senior/Junior have been found, with three of the four matches closely fought affairs.

None was more so than an epic encounter between Craig Barron/Lewis Wilson and Peter Watson/Dave Huntley which was finally decided on the 22nd hole in favour of Craig and Lewis. There was never more than one hole separating the two pairings. It was all square after nine before Craig won the 18th to extend proceedings after Peter missed a 17ft putt to win it. Both Peter and Lewis spurned chances on the 19th as did Craig on the 20th. While erratic, Craig won a number of holes with super recovery shots with Lewis proving very steady down the home stretch. Peter and Dave were left to rue some early short misses on the greens.

The combo of James Campion/Duncan Isle were pushed all the way by Graham Eggers/Maurice Woodhouse before prevailing one-up. James and Duncan drew first blood at the par-three No 2 but Graham and Mo won the next to square it up. They went to the turn all square after winning another hole each. James parred No 10 and 11 to get them two up but Graham took No 12 to narrow the gap only for Duncan to win No 13 with a net birdie. Mo parred No 14 to cut the deficit but Duncan repeated the dose at No 15 only for the duo to make a mess of No 16. A half at No 17 left Graham and Mo needing to win No 18 to take the match to extra holes but all they could do is halve it after James - who shot 77 off the stick from the blue tees - secured his par.

Paul Tunnicliff/Mick Leggett had a much easier time of it against Jarrod Huss/Mark Clucas, winning 3/2 after a back nine surge. Starting from No 4, Mick put his team ahead with a par on No 5 and a net par on No 6 before Mark evened it up by winning No 7 and No 9 with net pars. Jarrod - who struggled for much of the match - put them in front with a par at No 10 before Paul and Mick combined to win three holes on the bounce to shoot out to a handy 2-up lead. Three halves followed, despite Jarrod birdieing No 17 which was cancelled out by Mick's two-shot net birdie. He then ended it with a net birdie on No 1.

At the bottom of the draw, Andy Isle and his junior partner Phil Sellers outlasted Lindsay Brooks and Neil McLaren 2-up to make the last four. Beginning at No 7, Phil won No 8 with a par and Andy did likewise on No 9 before Neil got one back on No 10 with a par of his own. Phil got it back to 2-up with a net par on No 12 before the next hole was halved despite Andy birdieing it. The next five holes were also halved before Neil and Lindsay won No 1 with a par to be just one behind. Another net par on No 3 drew them level before No 4 was shared. With just two holes to go, Phil edged his team in front with a net par on No 5 before he repeated the dose on their last for victory..

In the match of the day - a net round off the blue tees - for those not in the Brebde, Roma Elkington enjoyed the perfect autumn conditions, winning on countback from Ian Hanford and Pete Green after all three finished with net 71. Playing off a 30 handicap, Roma went round in 101 to get the nod over Ian who recorded a 93 and Pete who carded a 77. Next was Gabriel Tijsen with a 73 which included a two at No 14 which was the only one of the day and was also the closest to the pin on that hole.

Andrew Dodson was the best of the 9-holers, winning on countback from Paul McCrae after both came in with +2 in the par competition off the front nine. John Dixon was third on +1, with Donna Dawson, Mike De Veer and Rebecca Gibson next on 0.

Next week (May 9) the 18-holers play the semifinals of the Brebde which will see Craig Barron/Lewis Wilson take on James Campion/Duncan Isle while Paul Tunnicliff/Mick Leggett do battle with Andy Isle/Phil Sellers. For everyone else the match of the day is a net round off the white tees. The 9-holers play a net round off the back nine.
