The Six-Hole Challenge has come down to a two-man race with one round to play.
It would take a serious meltdown for neither Mick Leggett nor Garth Jameson to win the competition, which is held over three rounds and involves 54 holes of matchplay against up to 12 different opponents.
Both Mick and Garth remain unbeaten, with Mick - who has totaled 48 points playing off a 28 handicap- holding a narrow two-point lead over Garth, who is playing off a 19.
They remain well ahead of three players - Keri Kotua, Barry Rhodes and Peter Watson - who are tied for third on 39 points. Chris Louth is next on 38 points. No-one else
has a realistic chance when the third round is played next Saturday.
Players score two points for every hole they win and one point for a half.
In the match of the day standings, Richard Pearson pipped James Campion on countback after both collected 26 points. Richard's net 70 was the best of the day, while James's 75 was the only gross under 80 despite a perfect winter's day for golf. Neil McLaren took third on countback from Aaron Kotua after both earned 22 points, with Mick also finishing on that score for fifth.
Richard, James and Aaron shared the twos money with one each.
Ali Mawby - the only woman in the field - was a popular winner among the 9-holers, with a +2 score in the par competition off the front nine. Paul McCrae finished second on 0.
