Club results for 30/8/25

  • Peter Watson

Brendan Doyle is this year's C&F Legal Stroke champion after withstanding a fierce challenge from Ian Hanford that was only decided on countback.

Played over the first two qualifying rounds of the club champs, both Brendan and Ian finished with a total net score of 146 but Brendan prevailed by recording the lowest individual net score, a 70 in the first round, to go with his 76 on Saturday (Aug 30). Ian posted a 72 followed by a 74 to fall just short.

After a poor first round Pete Green roared home with a 69 to finish third on 148, while Chris Louth (75 + 74) claimed fourth on 149.

They were followed by Bryce Vincent (81+69) and Peter Watson (77+73) on 150.

With pleasant playing conditions on a firming course, scoring for the second qualifying round was much better than a fortnight earlier.

Pete G's excellent 75 off the stick was easily the best gross of the day off the blue tees which left him leading the senior standings with one round to go. With the best two of three rounds counting he currently leads with a total of 160 from James Campion (164) and Andy Isle (170).

Peter Watson (88+84) continues to lead the intermediate grade with a two-round total of 172 from Bryce V (176) and Matt Tomcyzk (185).

Graham Eggers (95+92) heads the Junior A qualifiers on 187, closely followed by Brendan D on 188 and Gareth Edwards on 192.

Ian H (96+98) is making no race of the Junior B division with a total of 194, with Chris Louth (209) and Andrew Craig (211) his nearest challengers.

In the match of the day, Pete G won on countback from Bryce V after matching net 69s, while Takaka visitor Rob Ancell snared third on countback from Andy I after both came in with 72. They were followed by Peter W (73) and the trio of Ian H, Graham E and Chris L on 74. The round also carried Barkman Trophy points for the top seven and counted towards the top 10 Shootout qualification.

James C and Matt T shared the twos money with one each.

Newcomer Adam Hicks cleaned up the 9-holers with an eye-catching net 30 for the front nine, with Lloyd Moyle finishing second with a 32. Next were Mark Sherlaw and Paul McCrae on 34 each.

Next Saturday (Sept 6) we play Beat The Pro against a Total Golf team, which will be a four ball best ball off the white tees with players selecting their own partners. The 9-holers will also play a four ball best ball with selected partners off the back nine.
