Club results for 7/9/24

  • 7 September 2024
  • Peter Watson

A warm and sunny spring Saturday failed to generate much good golf for the third round of the C & F Legal Stroke, which also carried Barkman Trophy points and counted towards Shootout qualification.

For many it was more a case of getting hot under the collar than hot on the greens as they struggled to make much headway in heavy conditions off the back blue tees.

No player in the field managed to match their handicap, with Peter Watson winning the match of the day with a scrambling net 73. James Campion - whose 79 off the stick was the only gross score under 80 - was next with 74, while Roma Elkington pipped Mike Williams for third after both carded 75. Phil Sellers was next with 76, just ahead of Jack Denton and Graham Galt who both recorded 77 to take the last Barkman points. Maurice Woodhouse (78), Andy Isle (78) and Neil McLaren (79) rounded out the top ten.

Despite numerous near misses, no-one bagged a two with the kitty jackpotting to next week.

So after three of four rounds of the C & F Legal Stroke, James leads the standings of those who have played all three rounds with a total of 221. He is followed by Peter W (226),  Andy (231) and Maurice ( 232). However, those who have played just two rounds like Pete Green (147) and Jonathan Tuheke (151) are still very much in the reckoning with the final round to be played next Saturday (Sept 14) along with the third and final round of qualifying for the club champs. The best three of four Stroke rounds count, while two of three rounds of club champs qualifying need to be played to be in with a chance of making the playoffs.

There was a good turnout of 9-holers who played a stableford off the back nine, with Andrew Dean continuing his good form with a winning 20 points. Ali Mawby took second with 18 points and Paul McCrae and Heather Carey shared third with 17 points each. Warren Carey bagged a two to brighten his day.
