The semi-finalists in the Brebde senior/junior have been found after the two matches played on Saturday (April 24) were decided in contrasting fashion.

While Steve Russell and Andrew Craig coasted to a comfortable win over Rangi Kohe and Jason Ilton on the back of a fine nett 68 from Andrew, the match between Dave Black and Jim McMullan and a solo Andy Isle went down to the wire. Andy - whose partner Warwick King was unavailable - put up a valiant fight before losing at the last hole. Andy shot 76 off the stick (nett 68) and could have extended the match to extra holes if he hadn't missed a short putt at No 18.

The two winning pairs will now join Bryan Ramsey/Lewis Wilson and Jonathan Tuheke/Steve Turnell in the semi-finals on May 8.

Jonathan warmed up for them by taking out the match of the day, a stableford off the white tees. His 38 points, which included the only two of the day, was two ahead of Paul Tunnicliff. These two were the only ones to play to their handicaps, despite an excellent autumn day for golf, although recent rain had soften and lengthened the course. Way back in third was Peter Watson on 31 points, who pipped Tom Weiss and Winton Griggs on countback. Jack Denton and Paul McCrae were next with 30 points.

Next week  (May 1) is the first round of the Barkman Trophy and Shootout. For those looking for a tier one event to play, the Kina Open at Tasman is on over the weekend.

Entry to the Shootout is the same as last year - $2 per round with the top 10 stumping up another $20 for the playoffs.
