Paul Tunnicliff has done the double, defending the Six-hole Challenge crown he won last year.

But the 12.8 handicapper had to produced his best on Saturday - a fine 78 off the stick - to retain the title on countback from Richard Pearson and Andy Isle after all finished with 5 points from their three 6-hole matchplay games.

Paul began with a hard fought tie before finishing with two comfortable wins in his group, a record matched by his two closest rivals.

In the end it came down to winning one more hole than Richard and three more than Andy.

Peter Watson headed a host of players on four points, including Tom Weiss, Aaron Kotua, Ian Hanford, Dean Goodman and Paul McCrae.

It is the second year this competition has been played, with most players agreeing it is an enjoyable format and a welcome change.

Richard Pearson completed a good day with the only two, a long putt on No 5 at a key time in his first match. He missed a shorter one later for the jackpot.

We return to another round of the Barkman Trophy and Shootout next week (August 8).
