There will be a new name etched on the Six-Hole Challenge Cup this year after Warwick King outdid everyone else on Saturday (August 14).

The leftie - who was playing off a 20 handicap from the white tees - won all three of his mini matchplay matches - the only one in the field to do so - to claim top honours. Among his scalps were Jack Denton, Dean Goodman and Barry Rhodes.

Two others also remained unbeaten, with both Lindsay Brooks and Ian Hanford, finishing with two wins and a half each. Lindsay took second on countback after winning more holes than Ian.

Among those winning two of their matches were Andy Isle, Mike Murphy, Steve Russell and the winner of the competition for the last two years, Paul Tunnicliff, who mounted a decent bid for a three-peat.

On a day of changeable weather on a course that is starting to dry out, many players gave the pins a good peppering, with five recording birdies. Paul T, Lindsay, Jonathan Tuheke, Neil McLaren and Andy all shared the prize pot, but the big money went to Andy after he birdied both No 5 and 11 to scoop the last remaining jackpot.

Next Saturday (Aug 21) we resume the Barkman Trophy and Shootout, with a nett round off the blue tees to sharpen us for the upcoming club champs qualifying rounds next month. For the next two to three weeks as a trial, we will tee off at 11am (not 10am) so please report by 10.30am.
