It's been a while coming, but Stephen Russell finally found his mojo on Saturday (Aug 29) to motor up the Barkman Trophy standings.
The big-hitting 13 handicapper showed what he is capable of with a fine nett 69 to top the latest round of the Shootout and the Barkman Trophy, which was an American stableford played off the white tees.
His total of 57 points was just enough to fend off Bryan Ramsey by one point, but more importantly it gave him a shot of confidence going into the three club champ qualifying rounds, which begin next Saturday.
Warwick King also was in good touch in finishing third on 54 points and second in the Shootout with a nett 72.
Tom Weiss continued to add to his Barkman tally with a fourth place after accumulating 52 points.
He was followed by Jonathan Tuheke and Alan Church on 51 points, Steve Turnell (50), Barry Rhodes (48) and the trio of Phil Seller, Dean Goodman and Peter Green on 47 points.
Surprisingly - given the balmy spring-like conditions - most players struggled to score well (two were even awarded the bat) and no one scored a two so the money jackpots to next week.
For the next three weeks it gets tougher as players attempt to qualify for the club champs off the blue tees.
Please either put your name down on the sheet on the noticeboard upstairs in our newly renovated clubhouse or ring it through to manager Peter Watson. Don't wait until the last moment or on Saturday morning. As our premier club event of the year please make an effort to enter.
Check the programme calendar on our website to make sure you are available to play the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals if you do qualify as we do not want to see people withdraw later because they can't play.
