Club results for December 18, 2021

Jim McMullan plays his best golf when the weather is warmer and the ball runs further.

And the 27-handicapper showed his summer smarts again on Saturday (Dec 18) to take out the second round of the Burns Philp Trophy on countback from club captain Warwick King.

The pair - who each totalled 37 stableford points off the white tees - were the only ones to shoot under their handicap as a gusty and swirling wind made club selection tricky.

Keri Kotua gave Motueka a rest to play at his old stamping ground and showed his game is on the up with 35 points to claim third on countback from Steve Russell.

Next were Peter Watson - whose 79 was the best gross of the day - and Paul McCrae with 34 points apiece.

The foursome of Neil McLaren, Paul Tunnicliff, Aaron Kotua and Lloyd Patchett followed on 33 points to round out the top nine.

Aaron and Steve shared the twos money with one each.

It was good to welcome Chris Kenchington - who has moved from Picton - and our greenkeeper Eric Shurson to club play.

With the course officially closed on Christmas Day, our next competition is a four ball best ball with drawn partners on January 1, with the second round of the Penketh Plate following on January 8.

Have a great Christmas everyone and happy golfing.
