- Peter Watson
Maurice Woodhouse's hot form continued in the rain on Saturday (Dec 4) as he won consecutive match of the days.
Fresh from scoring 45 stableford points last week to take an early lead in the Burns Philp Trophy, the veteran 15-handicapper was at it again to head a small field in the first round of the Penketh Plate.
Despite a bit of pain from his new knee replacement, his net 71 of the blue tees - bolstered by some good late putting - saw him narrowly head off Brendan Doyle who took second on countback from Peter Watson after both finished with 72s.
Peter - who shot 79 off the stick - at least had the compensation of winning a healthy jackpot after twos at No 2 and No 5. They were the only ones of the day.
Warwick King finished fourth with 73.
Next week (Dec 11) we have the Leatai shield challenge against Blenheim Golf Club at their place. You must report by 11am for a 11.30am tee-off. If you want to make the trip across the hill please let Peter know.
For those not playing in the shield challenge the match of the day at home is an Irish stableford off the white tees starting at 9am.
