A change of gear has worked a treat for Mick Leggett.

The 34-handicapper veteran has been in fine form since swinging a set of clubs tailormade for him, which was a major reason for his match of the day win on Saturday (July 16).

On top of his recent good Old Hickory effort, he took maximum Barkman Trophy points in topping the table with 36 stablefords off the white tees. He was the only player in the field to play to his handicap despite the fine and frosty day and smoothly running greens.

Most found ball-striking difficult in the heavy underfoot conditions.

Peter Watson - with a 37 off the back nine and just 24 putts - secured second on countback from playing partner Geoff Halkett after both finished with 35 points. Peter's 79 off the stick was joint best gross with Andy Isle.

The improving Greg Mann was fourth on 34 points. He was followed by Peter Green and Chris Louth who both recorded 32 points, while Aaron Kotua claimed the last Barkman point on countback after he, Paul Tunnicliff and Andy all had 31 points.

Peter W helped himself to all the twos money after a birdie at No 10.

The day also counted as a Shootout round, with Mick (a net 72), Peter W and Geoff (73s) all advancing their qualification hopes, while Peter G (76), Paul and Aaron (77s) did their cause no harm.

Next week is another round of the Barkman and Shootout off the white tees, with the match of the day an Irish stableford.
