Alan Church had no need for a silent prayer on Saturday (July 18) as he posted an emphatic win in the latest round of the Barkman Trophy.
The chirpy 21-handicapper's excellent back nine for a +7 in the international stableford format off the white tees meant victory was virtually signed, sealed and delivered before the results were formally confirmed.
In shooting a nett 71 off the stick in surprisingly warm and breezy conditions, he was the only player in the field to finish under par. Not usually renown for his putting, Alan excelled on the unusually fast green which tripped up many players. His score was helped by a nett eagle.
Paul Tunnicliff finished second on countback from Andy Isle after both closed with +3 scores. Fourth was the in-form Dave Blake on +2. He was followed by Maurice Woodhouse (+1), Tom Weiss (0), and the quartet of Steve Turnell, Peter Green, Dean Goodman and Winton Griggs on -1.
Paul Tunnicliff and Edward Gibson shared the twos money.
In the fifth round of the Shootout, Paul Tunnicliff headed the less-than-stellar scoring with a nett 73. Next were Dave Blake (74), Peter Green (76), Peter Watson (78) and Keri Kotua (79).
Next Saturday (July 25) there is another round of the Barkman Trophy - nett plus putts off the white tees - and the Shootout.
