Keri Kotua will play Rob Willems in the final of the individual matchplay after both won their semi-finals in ultimately convincing fashion on a waterlogged Waahi Taakaro course on Saturday (July 20).
After an even start against Dean Goodman, Keri had built a three-hole lead by the turn only for Dean to win two on the trot to cut the margin to one. However, Keri won the 12th, 13th and 14th on the back of some steady play and errors by Dean and quickly closed it out 4/3.
Rob Willems and Paul Tunnicliff were square going into the back nine but Rob took the 13th and the 15th by sinking a long putt and ended it on the 17th for a 3/1 win.
Keri and Rob will play the final next Saturday (July 27).
In the match of the day, a stableford round off the white tees, Dave Blake continued his good form with an excellent 39 points in the difficult conditions to pip Jason Lee (38) points for first place.
A resurgent Steve Russell secured third with 35 points.
He was followed by Warren Carey, Terry Hemi and Elton Netto on 33 points, and Peter Watson and Lewis Wilson on 32 points. Steve Turnell and Andy Isle on 30 points made up the top ten.
There were no twos scored.
Meanwhile, the Sloan Trophy team to take on Totaradale at Motueka next Sunday (July 28) in the second last round of the inter-club competition for the year is Andy Isle, Keri Kotua, Steve Russell, Elton Netto, Dave Blake and Lewis Wilson.
