It’s rare that Lindsay Brooks isn’t in the mix when the scores are totalled at the end of a match and so it proved again on Saturday (July 24).

The veteran 14.8 handicapper was his usual steady self in prevailing in the latest round of the Barkman Trophy, a stableford round off the white tees.

His solid 36 stableford points on a course still playing heavy and long after a lot of rain earlier in the week was good enough to take top honours from Neil McLaren on countback.

Snapping at their heels were Lewis Wilson and Warren Carey on 35 points, with Lewis claiming third on countback.

They were followed by Dave Blake (34), Paul Tunnicliff (33) and Charlie Edgarton (32) who just edged Maurice Woodhouse (32) for the final Barkman Trophy point of the day.

The day also doubled as a Shootout round, with Lindsay (72), Wazza (73), Neil (74), Paul  and Dave (75 each) all improving their nett averages.

Mike Murphy and Steve Russell shared the twos money, with Steve’s the more spectacular effort: a rare eagle on No 4 courtesy of a solid drive up the hill and a pinpoint wedge.

Next week we play another round of the Barkman Trophy and Shootout, with the match of the day a nett round off the white tees.
