Even older dogs have their day as Ian Hanford proved on Saturday in winning the latest round of the Barkman Trophy.
On a saturated course, Ian had a steady front nine before rattling home for a net 67 and a +4 score in the par match of the day format.
In was just good enough to pip the in-form Steve Russell on countback who recorded the same net and par scores. Steve was headed for an even lower round after being square with the card after 12 holes before a couple of double bogies saw him finish with a 78 off the stick. It was only matched by Andy Isle with a 74 and Peter Green with a 78.
Aaron Kotua also had a good day, coming in with a +3 for third after shooting a net 70.
Next were Greg Mann (+2), Dean Goodman and Mick Leggett (+1 each), while Lewis Wilson (0) grabbed the last Barkman point.
The twos kitty was shared by four players - Andy, Aaron, Keri Kotua and Jonathan Tuheke.
In the Shootout, Steve, Aaron, Mick and Dean all improved their net average.
Next Saturday (July 16) we play the sixth round of the Barkman Trophy, which is a stableford round off the white tees. It also doubles as a Shootout round.
