The individual matchplay got underway on Saturday (June 22) in typical winter conditions - frosty, still and heavy underfoot.

With 21 entries, 11 lucky players drew first round byes while the other ten battled it out in five matches.

Andy Isle, who was six up at the turn, survived a stern fightback from Rod Thomason who took it to the last hole before losing 2 up.

Peter Watson was never behind against Jason Lee but had his lead cut to just two holes with four to play before he drained a long par putt on No 15 to eventually win 3/2.

Lewis Wilson was made to work hard to see off a strong challenge from John McGougan before getting home 1 up.

Dean Goodman proved too steady for Steve Russell in winning 4/3, while the wily Dave Huntley once again proved his matchplay prowess in overcoming Jonathan Tuheke 2/1.

Round two is next Saturday, (June 29). The draw will be sent out mid week.
