Club results for June 29, 2019

  • Peter Watson

Their was a good turnout on Saturday (June 29) to mark departing manager Gordon Davidson's last day on the job after five years of excellent service to the club.

The quarter-finalists of the individual matchplay were found after second round matches off the blue tees were completed..

Play was delayed 40 minutes to let a hard frost thaw, although most of the sheltered No 6 green remained frozen despite a sunny day.

At the top of the draw, Paul Tunnicliff snuck a win over Bryan Ramsey by winning the 18th hole to draw level and then the 19th to claim victory.

Dave Huntley outlasted Dave Blake 2/1 in a see-sawing battle, while Phil Sellers was far too steady for Andrew Craig and romped to a 6/4 win.

Rob Willems pipped Peter Watson 1 up in a match where both players struggled but where Rob proved better on the greens.

Peter Green parred their last hole - the difficult No 3 - to edge Graham Eggers 1 up.

Keri Kotua showed solid form in thumping an out-of-sorts Lewis Wilson 7/5, while Andy Isle had a walkover after Paul McCrae withdrew for family reasons.

And at the bottom of the draw, Dean Goodman rallied late to down Elton Netto 2./1.

The quarterfinals will be held on July 13, unless both players agree to play it earlier.

They will see Paul Tunnicliff v Dave Huntley, Phil Sellers v Rob Willems, Peter Green v Keri Kotua and Andy Isle v Dean Goodman.

In the match of the day, a nett round off the white tees, Alan Church triumphed with a nett 72.

He was closely followed by Aaron Kotua on 73, while Rob Styles made a welcome return by grabbing third on countback from visitor Rob Ormsby after both recorded 74. Next were the trio of Jason Lee, Rod Thomason and G Tijsen on 75, with another threesome - Andy Isle, Gordon Davidson and Winton Griggs -  making up the top 10 with 76.

There were four twos - with Elton Netto, Andy Isle, Gordon Davidson and Steve Chetham sharing the spoils.

The match of the day next Saturday (July 6) will be an Irish stableford played off the white tees. It will also be a Barkman Trophy and shootout round.
