Aaron Kotua and Steve Russell remain in the box seat to win the Cap-it-all Trophy with just one pair left to complete their second round.

Led by another excellent effort from Aaron – a net 68 off the white tees – they hold a two-shot lead over their nearest challenge after another perfect day for golf.  It could’ve been more comfortable but Steve had a nightmare last hole to come home with a net 75. But the joint leaders after a first round 62 are still looking good with a team total of 206 with just the pairing of Keri Kotua and Peter Green – who were away on rep duty - able to catch them. Keri and Peter – who shot a joint 66 in the first round – will need two good individual nets to take the title.

Currently holding second are Mike Murphy and Paul McCrae who improved their position thanks to a 67 – the best net of the day – from Mike. With Paul’s 76, they ended with 208.

Lying third are Andy Isle and Lewis Wilson on 210 after Andy came in with a solid 70 and Lewis a 75.

Next were Chris Kenchington and Lloyd Patchett on 211 who climbed to fourth on the back of Chris’s tidy 69 and Lloyd’s 75.

Peter Watson (71) and Barry Rhodes (75) followed on 212, while fellow first round leaders Paul Tunnicliff (73) and Brendan Doyle (79) faded from contention to finish on 214.

Making up the numbers were Neil McLaren (72) and Bryan Ramsey (75) on 218, John Dixon (78) and Charlie Edgarton (69) on 220 and Rangi Kohe (76) and Jim McMullan (72) on 222.

Bryan at least had the compensation of winning the jackpot after birdies at both No 5 and 11, while Paul T, Steve and Rangi also slotted twos.

Peter shot the best gross of the day, a 76, closely followed by Andy's 77.

Next Saturday (March 26) we host the inaugural Waahi Taakaro Scramble  - a three-person team ambrose tournament for golfers and non-golfers. We are very close to a full field of 28 teams, but for those still wanting to play we can put you on a shortlist in case we have any late withdrawals. Please contact either club captain Warwick King 027 568 6374 or kingjohn.wk@gmail.com or club manager Peter Watson 03 5487771 or waahitaakaro@xtra.co.nz
