Mike Murphy returned to the winner's circle to clinch not only Pat Melville Memorial Trophy but also the second round of the season-long Barkman Trophy on Saturday.

Playing off the white tees in calm conditions, the canny 17-handicapper rediscovered his form after a short spell in Wellington to shoot a net 70, the low score of the day, to get his name on another piece of silverware.

Sali Mann secured second in the Barkman Trophy with a 71, while Mick Leggett edged out Geoff Halkett for third on countback after both finished with 72 on a day of surprisingly high scoring.

Next were the quartet of Steve Russell, Neil McLaren, Lindsay Brooks and Paul McCrae with 73 each. They were followed by Lewis Wilson (74) and the foursome of Andrew Craig, Bradley Brown, Paul Tunnicliff and Peter Green on 75.

Mick had the consolation of finishing runner-up in the Pat Melville Memorial for golfers 55 and over.

Steve Russell - who shot a back nine 39 despite a 9 on the 10th hole -  Maurice Woodhouse and Andrew Craig shared the twos money.

The day also doubled as a Shootout round, with Mick, Geoff and Neil advancing their cause.

Next Saturday (May 21) is the first round of the Individual Matchplay off the blue tees. Please get your entries in early and before the deadline of 9.30am on the day to allow time to do a draw.

Please be aware that it is the opening weekend of the hub so there will be a lot of people using the new track around the course and the pump track. There will also be live music and other distractions..
