The winter club season finally got underway in splendid autumn sunshine on Saturday (May 16) after being delayed six weeks by the Covid-19 pandemic.

And it was club captain Warwick King - with an excellent back nine - who finished top of the pile on countback in the nett round off the white tees, which also doubled as a Barkman Trophy and Shootout round.

With players still getting to grips with the slowly recovering greens and a World Handicap System which docked most a couple of shots, Warwick sailed home with an inward 39 for a nett 71 to seal the win.

Also on 71 were Steve Russell - whose 81 off the stick was the best of the day - and Aaron Kotua who was pushed down to third.

Steve Chetham on 72 finished fourth followed by Paul McCrae (73), Paul Tunnicliff (74) and Lindsay Brooks and Ian Hanford on 75 each.

Dave Blake (76) and Keri Kotua (77) completed the top 10.

There were four twos, with Paul McCrae, Paul Tunnicliff, Tom Weiss and Ian Hanford sharing the spoils.

Next week (May23) the individual matchplay tees off so everyone who wants to play in one of our leading competitions needs to get their names down. Please contact the shop (5487301 or Peter (5487771) to get in the draw. The matchplay is played over the next month, so players who enter must be available to play over this time. Depending on the number of entries, there are likely to be some byes in the first round.
