The quarterfinalists of the Individual Matchplay have been found after a round when most matches were decided well before the the final hole.
At the top of the draw Paul Tunnicliff proved far too steady for Bradley Brown in coasting to a 5/4 win after been two up at the turn and then winning three in a row on what was another pearler of an autumn day.
Andy Isle entered his match against Andrew Craig with little room for error if he was to overcome a 17-shot start. However, he couldn't foot it with his fellow Sloan Trophy team mate who played under his handicap and was never behind in a match that ended on the 15th hole with a 4/3 victory.
Last year's champion, Barry Rhodes got off to a solid start by defeating Lloyd Patchett 3/2. One ahead at the halfway point, Barry slowly built an unassailable lead.
The match between Geoff Halkett and Peter Watson was the only one to go the distance, with Geoff rounding off an excellent back-nine comeback from being two down after eight holes to surge past his misfiring opponent. He capped off a 2-up win with a fine par on No 3, their final hole.
Peter Green got the better of his Sloan partner Keri Kotua after seeing a handy three-up lead at the turn whittled down to just one two holes later. But pars on No 18, No 1 and 2 against bogies by Keri saw Peter surge ahead again and while Keri won No 3 the match ended at the next hole in a 3/2 victory.
Callum Hogg came from three down after four holes to overcome Roma Elkington 4/3. The big-hitting Callum - who gave his rival five shots - found his mojo at the start of the back nine to win five holes in a row with four pars and a bogey to canter home.
Lewis Wilson came into his match with Warwick King in the better form but it counted for little as Warwick built on a one-up lead after the front nine to shut out his fellow leftie 4/3 with some solid golf.
Steve Russell had it the easiest after his opponent Richard Pearson couldn't play because of injury.
The quarterfinals will be played off the blue tees again on June 11.
In the match of the day - a stableford off the white tees - for those not involved in the matchplay, Dean Goodman's return to competition gathered pace with a win on countback after both he and Mike Murphy finished with 36 points. Dean's tidy 80 off the stick showed he has lost little of his ability when healthy.
Lindsay Brooks shaded Aaron Kotua for third after both recorded 35 points, while Maurice Woodhouse (33), Paul McCrae and Steve Turnell (32 each) completed the top tier.
Unusually, there were no twos recorded by the 32 golfers who teed off so the pool jackpots to next week (June 5) when we play another round of the Barkman Trophy and Shootout.
