Andrew Craig grabbed himself some silverware after capturing the Worley Trophy in a sudden-death putt-off on Saturday (Nov 23).

The 24 handicapper shot a 90 off the stick for a fine nett 66 off the white tees. He was matched by Peter Watson who finished with a two-over 74.

Under the rules of the competition which is restricted to those aged 55 and over, a putt-off was required to find a winner and Andrew narrowly prevailed, sneaking the ball just inside Peter’s effort from 30 feet.

Third was Rob Willems with a 67 (76 off the stick) followed by Paul Tunnicliff on 68. Next were a trio on 69 – Paul McCrae, Dave Blake and Rod Thomason.  Warwick King and Rangi Kohe recorded 71s, while Richard Pearson and Phil Sellers rounded off the top 11 with 72s.

Two `youngsters’ not yet eligible for the trophy, Keri Kotua (66) and Jason Lee (68) also enjoyed the hot conditions on a freshly groomed course.

An excellent field of 40 teed off – which was boosted by a contingent of 15 Eagles and their partners here on their annual visit.  Some got up early to drive over the Whangamoa to take part which we appreciated.

The best of the visitors were Graeme Daines, Trevor Timpson and John O’Brien with 69, 70 and 71 respectively. Both Graeme and John were among the twos along with Andrew Craig, Andy Isle, Keri Kotua and Paul Tunnicliff.

Thanks to our visitors for adding some colour and clout to the day and to those that helped out afterwards in the clubhouse.
