Club results for September 7, 2019
- 7 September 2019
- Peter Watson
The quarter-finals of the club champs were fiercely fought, with most matches going almost the full distance.
With the course playing surprisingly well after a lot of rain earlier in the week, there was some good scoring and shot-making on display.
In the senior division, Dean Goodman overcame the loss of his first two holes to ground out a 1-up win against Peter Watson. Dean - who was straighter off the tee and surer on the greens - didn't take the lead until the 15th hole but held on to claim the win.
Bryce Vincent matched Keri Kotua for 11 holes but then went out of bounds on the 12th and then again on the 16th before Keri sealed his fate with a half on the 17th for a 2/1 win.
Intermediate top seed Paul Tunnicliff was made to work hard to see off Aaron Kotua 2up, while Steve Russell overcame Elton Netto 2/1.
Jonathan Tuheke had too many guns for Richard Pearson in winning 3/2. Graham Eggers got a free pass through to the semi-finals after Jason Lee couldn't make it back from Bali.
In the junior A grade, Bryan Ramsey finally got the better of Dave Huntley 2-1, but Mike Murphy had to go to 19th to shade Dave Slow. Alan Church got through via a default after Lewis Wilson was called away on other business. Top qualifier Brendan Doyle is to play Ian Hanford tomorrow to decide the final berth.
The semi-finals are scheduled for next Saturday (Sept 14) unless both players agree to play it at a later date.
In the match of the day, a stableford round off the white tees, Andy Isle shot an impressive 73 off the stick to amass 44 points and claim top honours for the day. Close behind was Steve Turnell with a very handy 42 points. In third place was Brendan Doyle with 39 points followed by Rob Willems and Warren Carey on 38 points.
Andy Isle, Bryce Vincent, Warren Carey and Rob Willems shared the twos prize money.
