It's been a work in progress but on Saturday (Oct 24) Maurice Woodhouse put most of the pieces together to walk off with a win in the latest round of the Barkman Trophy.
The veteran 15.9 handicapper's tidy nett 71 off the white tees in glorious spring weather was the only sub par round managed by a small field reduced by the lure of a long weekend.
He was two stroke better than Rangi Kohe who returned to form with a 73 to edge Dean Goodman and Richard Pearson on countback.
Peter Watson finished fifth with a 74, which was ruined by two late double bogies. He was one in front of Keri Kotua (75). A quartet of 76s from Barry Rhodes, Peter Green, Bryan Ramsey and Stephen Russell rounded off the top ten.
Peter Watson drained the only two of the day to scoop the pool.
Dean Goodman - the newly crowned senior club champ - showed why with a 79 off the stick for the best gross of the day.
In the last Shootout round before the final on November 7, Peter Watson, Keri Kotua, Peter Green and Stephen Russell improved their nett average to climb the standings.
