Our three Waahi Taakaro rep players helped propel the Nelson Intermediate team to a narrow victory in the first Tasman Quadrangular event of the year at the Marlborough Golf Club over the weekend (July 25/26).
Pete Green won all three of his matches, starting with a 1-up result against his Tasman Invitational team rival followed by 5/4 and 2/1 wins over his Buller Westland and Marlborough opponents.
James Campion won two of his Saturday matches, 2-up and 2/1 against Tasman Invitational and Buller Westland, before losing narrowly 1-down to his Marlborough rival.
Keri Kotua began with a 5/3 defeat in his Tasman Invitational match before rebounding strongly to win his other two 5/4 and 4/3 against Buller Westland and Marlborough opponents.
The efforts of our three guys helped the Nelson team go through the weekend undefeated, with two team wins and a draw for 2.5 points after accumulating 14.5 individual points. The Tasman Invitational team finished a close second on 2 points (13.5). They were followed by Marlborough on 1 point (11.5) and Buller Westland 0 point (8.5).
It was the same story at the senior level, with Nelson winning all three of its matches for 3 points while amassing 18 individual points. Tasman Invitational was next on 2 points (12.5), with Marlborough on 1 point (11.5) and Buller Westland last on 0 points (5).
