Dominant win for Old Hickory team

Our Old Hickory has moved to the top of the Club of the Year standings after a storming home win on Thursday (Oct 2).
In ideal playing conditions, Waahi Taakaro dominated the latest round of the vets inter-club competition, taking the trophy by a massive 19 points.
Led by captain fantastic Ian Hanford - whose 39 stableford points was the best individual effort of the day - we totalled an imposing 150 points on our home track. He received strong support from Barry Rhodes and Phil Sellers who both posted 38 points, while Mick Leggett chipped in with 35 points. Our non-scorers - Lloyd Moyle (34) and Richard Pearson (29) - were still better than many in the field who surprisingly struggled on a course that greenkeeper James Dale had got into great shape.
Tasman finished a distant second on 131 points with the ageless Eric Satherley and Ian Dorney leading the way with 35 apiece.
Motueka claimed third on 124, largely thanks to Mike Hay's 36 points.
Previous points leader Totaradale was next on 123. They were followed by Takaka (122) and Nelson (119), with Greenacres retaining the popgun for another month after totalling just 116 points.
Just four golfers - three of them from Waahi Taakaro - played to their handicaps, while three golfers - Darren Quick (Nelson), Mike McGee (Tasman) and our own Richard Pearson - recorded twos.
With just two rounds remaining at Takaka on November 6 and Greenacres on December 4, Waahi Taakaro has made up a 25 point deficit to vault over Totaradale into the Club of the Year points lead. We now top the standings - which include the scores from all six players in a team each month - with 1158 points. Totaradale is close behind on 1151 There is a big gap back to Tasman on 1118 and Motueka on 1102. They are followed by Nelson (1094), Greenacres (1079) and tail-end Takaka (1068).
