Maurice Woodhouse has had a spring in his step in the last few weeks and it showed when he narrowly took out the match of the day on Thursday.

The lowest handicapper in the field - who has found some form recently, particularly on the greens - shot a respectable net 37 on the front nine to go with just 13 putts to total 50 in the net plus putts format.

This was one better than Andrew Dean and Warren Green who both came in with 51 after net 36s and 15 putts each to share second.

They were followed by Paul McCrae (38 + 14) with 52. Brendan Doyle (37 + 16) and Mick Leggett (39 + 14) were next with 53.

Nobody managed a two in the calm conditions and the hidden hole was not struck.

Next week (Aug 31) the Golden Oldies play a par round off the back nine.
