Warren Green rolled back the years and rolled in the putts to cruise to an impressive win in the third and final round of the Laurie Ashby Cup on Thursday (Oct 12) but the overall honours and silverware went to Andrew Dean.

Warren – playing off a 14 handicap for the front nine- had a stunner in breezy and warm conditions, racking up 24 stableford points.

He was two better than club president Paul Tunncliff and vice president Grant Fergusson who returned to form with 22 points each.

Golden Oldies convenor Noel Shaw continued his solid season with 21 points and fourth place.

Next were Andrew and Trevor Atkinson on 20 apiece. This was more than enough for Andrew to claim the cup with a total of 56 points after earlier rounds of 20 and 16 stablefords. Noel finished second overall on 52 points, while Lloyd Moyle and Ian Hanford shared third on 49.

Phil Sellers (19) finished seventh in the final round with the trio of Richard Pearson, Michael Doyle and Bryan Ramsey rounding out the top 10 with 18 points each.

There were no twos and the hidden hole was not struck.

Scoring was generally better as the course dries out and there is more run.

Next Thursday (Oct 19) the Golden Oldies play another round of the Worley Cup, which is a net round off the front nine.
