Bryan Ramsey put his name forward for Polly Pearce Memorial Trophy honours by winning the third round of the competition on Thursday.

Under clearing skies, he came in with a tidy net 34 for the front nine to head a good Golden Oldies field of 29.

This was just one ahead of Phil Sellers who claimed second with a 35. Graham Strickett and Neil Howard shared third with 36.

They were the only golfers to play to or better their handicaps on a course playing longer because of recent rain.

They were followed by Noel Shaw (37) and the quartet of Richard Pearson, Paul Tunnicliff, Paul McCrae and Terry Kelso who each recorded 38.

Another group of four - Jack Denton, Ian Hanford, John Dixon and Ivan Guy - followed on 39 apiece.

Andrew Dean experienced the ups and down that is golf. He had a very average round that included a watery12 at No 9 but he went home with the biggest collect after grabbing the only birdie of the day at No 5 which also happened to be the hidden hole.

Next Thursday (Aprll 20) the Golden Oldies play the third round of the Worley Trophy which will be a net plus putts round off the back nine
