Maurice Woodhouse rediscovered his touch to win the first round of the Polly Pearce Memorial Trophy on Thursday (Feb 24).

The 15.3 handicapper shot a pleasing 40 off the stick on the front nine, with five pars and four bogies for a net 34 to head the early standings in the six-round competition.

He shaded Noel Shaw on countback after the Golden Oldies convener also returned a net 34.

Jack Denton, Tom Weiss, Tom Kennedy, John Gibbons and Rob Shand shared third after recording net 35s.

Ray Hopgood and Ivan Guy were next on 36, while Paul Tunnicliff and Paul McCrae rounded out the top 11 with 37 apiece. A good field of 31 took part on an ideal day for golf.

Surprisingly, there were no twos so the jackpot grows for next week (March 3) , which is a par round off the front nine.

The next round of the Polly Pearce is on March 10 off the back nine.
