Grant Fergusson ended up top dog on a day when the scoring matched the hot weather at Waahi Taakaro.

The club vice president was in imperious form in amassing 46 points for the back nine in the Irish stableford format, which saw him shoot a sharp 42 off a 10 handicap to take the match of the day honours.

Warren Green pushed him close in coming in with 45 points for second, while Michael Doyle - helped by the only two of the day - claimed third with 43 points.

A resurgent Barry Rhodes and Maurice Woodhouse shared fourth with 42 points each.

They were followed by Chris Louth (41), Trevor Atkinson and Tom Weiss (39 each) and the trio of Gordon Combe, Richard Pearson and Paul McCrae on a respectable 38 points apiece.

Next Thursday (Feb 2) is a par round off the back nine. Our Old Hickory team will play the first round of the year at Totaradale on the same day.
