Paul McCrae always seems to be there or thereabouts when it comes to club competitions, so it was no surprise to see his name at the top of the Golden Oldies leaderboard once again on Thursday.

Playing accurate approach golf and displaying a sure touch on the greens, the 21-handicapper amassed an excellent 23 stableford points for the front nine to coast to victory.

There was a four-way tie for second between John Dixon, Jim McMullan, Tom Kennedy and Grant Fergusson who each totalled 20 points.

Another five golfers – Warren Green, Lloyd Moyle, Roma Elkington, Richard Pearson and Ali Mawby – were next with 19 points apiece on a day of generally good scoring.

If there was an award for shot of the day, Richard would have won it after holing a 7 iron from the rough for an eagle two on the uphill No 4. At least he walked away with a decent collect for the only two.

The hidden hole was not struck.

Next Thursday (Jan 11) the Golden Oldies play a par round off the back nine.
