Drive for show, putt for dough is an old pearl of wisdom among golfers.

Michael Doyle showed it still rings true when his 14 putts on the back nine helped propel him to victory in the net plus putts match of the day on Thursday.

His tidy net 35 plus putts saw him finished with a total of 49, one better than the trio of Warren Green (34 + 16), Roma Elkington (34 + 16) and Brian Clinton (36 + 14) who shared second on 50 each.

They were followed by John Gibbons (36 + 15), John Dixon (36 +16), Paul McCrae (38 + 14), Neil Howard (37 + 16), Jim McMullan (40 + 14) and Heather Carey (37 + 18).

There were no twos and no-one struck the hidden hole so both jackpot to next week (Feb 16) which will be the first round of the Polly Pearce Memorial Trophy which is a net round off the front nine.
