Robbie Dellow is a quick learner.

The relative newcomer to club competitions showed the field a clean pair of heels to win the match of the day, an Irish stableford off the back nine.

His eye-catching 44 points was four ahead of his nearest rival and will further reduce his 34.4 handicap.

Chris Kenchington - in one of his final rounds before returning to the UK - recording a very respectable 40 points in finishing second on another prime autumn day for golf.

Former Waahi Taakaro and Nelson greenkeeper Gordon Combe showed he still has plenty of game with 39 points and third place.

Ngati Koata kaumatua Roma Elkington and Michael Doyle shared fourth with 38 points.

Next were Brian Clinton (37), Noel Shaw and Barry Mitchell (36 apiece) and John Dixon (35).

Barry scooped the twos pool with the only one of the day on No 11.

Next Thursday (May 12) is the fourth round of the Polly Pearce Memorial Trophy, which is a net round off the back nine.
